New In Town: Marin & Riena

October 3, 2010

Marin (left) raps and Riena (right) sings. Together these two ladies make a dynamic pop/rap duo called Marin & Riena. The ladies received a spotlight when releasing their summer hit Natsu no Kaori (Summer Scent) which landed them#1 on the uta ten charts. They finally have received the green light to release their debut single, Love Train, from Avex.

Marin and Riena are both born in the city of Tokyo and stand at 168cm, about 5′ 6″. The duo stand about a year apart: Riena was born on August 9, 1987 and Marin was born on July 13, 1988. The information about Marin is from the poor Google translation, so I’m unsure if everything is 100% sure. It seems that Marin started learning to hip-hop dance during elementary school and appeared in numerous shows and contest. She began singing at the age of 13 and started writing lyrics. Riena is a model, gracing magazines and won second in Miss Tokyo Girls Collection Grand Prix.

Marin & Riena is finally making their debut with their debut single, Love Train. Love Train will be released on October 20th and have two versions available. The single will have three tracks, excluding the instrumentals.  The title track, Love Train, is used for the ABC-MART TV CM. Arabiki Dan will be the ending theme for TBS starting on October 11th. Finally, the last track is Okaeri which looks like it won’t be featured in anything. The duo will have PVs for all their tracks on the single and Love Train has already been released.

I love the production of Love Train, it’s catchy and a fun debut single. The brief breakdown at 2:44 is incredible with its scratches and vocalizing on Marin’s voice! I normally don’t listen to the pop/rap groups from Japan,  but this duo is interesting and I’m definitely going to be keeping track of their upcoming releases! Check out Love Train PV below!
