Mukai Osamu’s Upcoming Movie

October 23, 2010

Mukai Osamu will star in his first leading role for the movie called Bokutachi wa Sekai wo Kaerukotoga Dekinai, But, We wanna build a school in Cambodia. The upcoming movie is based on a book that was published privately in 2008 by a student of Nippon Medical School, Hada Kota. Kota described his vivid memories in building a school in Cambodia with his colleagues.

Kota and his colleagues began a campaign to raise funds after knowing that ¥1,500,000 ($18,465 USD) could build a school in Cambodia. The group also visited Cambodia as volunteers. Although they started it without giving it much thought, the volunteers became more invested in the project after seeing the horrors of civil war in Cambodia with their own eyes.

The book was able to catch the eyes of a producer and Mukai was casted after it was learned that he stayed in Cambodia on a television show called Sekai Ururun Taizaiki in 2007. Mukai stayed in Cambodia with his host family and assisted with extracting land mines and cultivate mango patches alongside them. Mukai has confessed that the host family is like his precious second family.

According to Sanspo, Mukai received many offers, however, he chose this project because he said that nobody besides him could play that role.  The shoot in Cambodia will start in the middle of November, and the movie will be released sometime in Fall 2011.
